Starry Starry Night! March 14th 2012

My lovely charity Starlight, is renowned for it’s creative and innovative events which help raise money for seriously and terminally ill children. I am always left speechless by what they do at Starlight, and how brave these little children are when I meet them. Last month, Starlight got together with eBay and The Langham London Hotel to launch a fabulous design project….Celebrity Lampshades!

Starlight managed to get a host of high profile celebrities to take part and design a lampshade that was to then be auctioned on eBay to raise money for the charity. Delighted by this idea I was amazed at how many people have taken part. The names included, Ricky Gervais, Jonathan Ross, Nicole Scherzinger, Bill Nighy, Stereophonics, William Tempest, Daisy de Villeneuve, Sam Taylor-Wood, Linford Christie and Stephen Webster….fantastic!

The evening was a glorious success, held at The Langham in Mayfair. Champagne flowed and the most gorgeous canapés were served to all the guests, as we mingled and admired the finished lampshades. Ambassador for Starlight, Tamara Ecclestone, spoke of her love for the charity and admiration for those who work with Starlight. It was a wonderful, relaxed evening, and I am quite sure that the lampshades will raise plenty of money for Starlight. There was a tremendous turn out of Starlight supporters and a host of celebrities, who I am sure will do their best to raise money and awareness for this amazing charity.

We all had a super evening and I was so impressed by the incredible Sarah Dawson whose energy and drive puts us all to shame. Sarah works tirelessly for Starlight and she and I had a very successful meeting a couple of weeks ago at Brook Street, to finalise the details for my own Starlight shoe, a glittering, multi-sparkle ballet flat which French Sole will be selling through all their stores and on-line with the profits being donated to Starlight.

Please look out for these shoes when you are shopping at French Sole or London Sole in America, and, of course, if you feel able to donate to Starlight or to help them in any way by possibly granting a wish for a seriously ill child and their family - I would be beyond grateful.

Next week, I am meeting the principal ballerina of the English National Ballet , Daria Klimentova. I am hoping that she will grant a wish for a little Starlight girl of possibly taking part in a lesson,  or a rehearsal - but this will take some organising and perhaps a little “bribery or persuasion” with the repetiteurs at the ballet!

P.S. The brilliant Starlight lampshades were all auctioned very effectively by EBay and to my great delight, I have managed to secure two of them! I loved Linford Christie’s 2012 Olympic lampshade and it is my intention to try and sell this while the Olympics are on and raise more money from the sale of it for Starlight.  Bill Nighy’s shade apparently took him several attempts before he was completely satisfied with his design, which I think is absolutely brilliant and the lamp with it’s gorgeous shade will look wonderful in my fabulous new Chelsea flat on Sloane Square into which I move next week - more of this next time!
